This list is dynamic and grows with every contribution. If you know of a great Igbo man or woman whose story belongs here — a community leader, a scholar, a soldier, a healer, a builder — we want to hear from you. No name is too small. The community hero known only within twenty miles is as important to this archive as the statesman known to the world. Our people said: when people are disputing for farmland, the person with yam seedlings will be busy planting.

12 entriesThe Biafran Armed Forces were the military of the Republic of Biafra, which existed from 30 May 1967 until 15 January 1970. At the start of the Nigerian Civil War, Biafra had approximately 3,000 soldiers — a number that grew to over 30,000 as the conflict continued. These are the commanders who led them. Their story belongs in this archive regardless of the outcome of the war. History records those who fought, not only those who won.
